Rural Electrification is a vital programme for socio-economical development of rural areas, the objectives are to trigger economic development and generate employment by producing electricity as input for productive uses in agriculture and rural industries and improve the quality and life of rural people by supplying electricity for lighting homes, shops, community centers and public places of villages.
Rural Electrification involves supply of energy for two types of programmes :
- Electrification of villages.
- Production oriented activities like minor irrigation, rural industries etc.
